There are 12 appeals courts, one extra for the District of Columbia(D.C.).
About 75% of the 61,000 cases filed in the appeals courts each year come from the district courts.
The court of appeals reviews all final decisions of the district courts.
They also focus on correcting errors of procedure and law that occured in the district courts. (Judges giving improper instructions, or misinterpreted the rights provided under a law).
